Manchester United ace Lisandro Martinez couldn’t cover his delight for Wout Weghorst after he scored his first aim for the club and says the Dutchman has already earned respect from his team-mates.

The 30-year-old joined United from Burnley earlier this month after the Purple Devils paid a £2.6m charge to terminate his mortgage deal at Besiktas.

Weghorst was signed as a alternative for Cristiano Ronaldo, who had his personal deal terminated in early December.

The Netherlands international had began twice earlier than the 3-0 win towards Nottingham Forest in the Carabao Cup semi-finals on Wednesday.

He impressed towards Crystal Palace and Arsenal together with his link-up play but Weghorst displayed little objective menace.

That changed towards Forest, with the Dutchman pouncing on a parry from Wayne Hennessey to internet his first aim for the club with a tidy end.

And although Martinez says it’s essential for strikers to attain objectives, he says Weghorst had already impressed his new team-mates in training together with his work ethic and high quality.

‘As a striker, he lives for the objectives and I’m completely satisfied for him as a result of he’s training very properly as nicely,’ Martinez advised MUTV.

‘We'd like that confidence and I’m comfortable he scored right now. Now we have now to work for the subsequent recreation – it’s not completed yet.’

With Raphael Varane rested and Harry Maguire suspended, Martinez was partnered by Victor Lindelof on the Forest Ground.

The Argentine praised his Swedish associate and says they’ve been engaged on their partnership.

‘I feel we confirmed many good things, however nonetheless, we have now so much to enhance. It’s an excellent outcome, I feel we controlled the sport at present. In training, we [Lindelof] work with one another and I feel we’re doing a very good job,’ stated Martinez.

‘That’s crucial thing whenever you want a player, we've got to be there, we've got to be ready and Victor did very properly. I feel everyone seems to be training onerous, you'll be able to see now, the final two games have been unlucky, we did a tremendous job, however we've got to keep going.’
